about

"Nobody told us that Metal was dead - believe me", Snoppi says with a deadpan face, "we didn’t notice that in the rehearsal room...". This totally naive and very honest statement, taken from an early interview, is WIZARD in a nutshell. WIZARD have remained true to themselves - and they are the only real choice for anyone searching for the true Metal spirit. The four guys from Bocholt started 8 years before Hammerfall (1989) and never looked back - for WIZARD, consisting of Sven D'Anna (vocals), Snoppi (drums), Michael Maaß (guitar) and Volker Leson (bass), there was and is only one direction: full speed ahead! The smash album "Bound By Metal" (1999) kind of catapulted WIZARD from the underground to the elite of German Power Metal. Songs like 'Hammer, Bow, Axe And Sword', 'Mighty Wizard', 'Bound By Metal', or 'Dark Wings' still belong to the standard repertoire of any decent Metal DJ. In 2000, the band signed a long-term deal with Limb Music. In 2001, "Head Of The Deceiver" was released, so far, the most successful and best album in the band’s history. This record, like its predecessor, got fantastic reviews by the media, and even in South Africa, a WIZARD fan club was established by die-hard fans. The band toured and also played lots of single shows with Paul Di'Anno, Edguy, Paragon, Goddess Of Desire, Sacred Steel and Death SS, crowned by much praised performances at the Bang Your Head- and Wacken-Festivals in Germany with stage shows which made headbanger dreams come true: leather, chains, rivets, fire spitting, pyros and lots of raised fists in the audience.

In fall 2002, WIZARD boarded the Powerhouse Studios in Hamburg to record a concept album about the nordic Göttervater Odin - at the helm: Piet Sielck (Iron Savior, Heavenly, Blind Guardian...). "Odin" is a powerful and versatile Power Metal epos which starts at the point where Manowar have stopped with "The Sign Of The Hammer".

about

Wizard Bocholt, Germany

In 1989 four lads from Bocholt in central Germany didn't know that heavy metal had been declared dead. They were in their practise room and were busy polishing their latest songs. 8 years before Hammerfall appeared on the scene, and up to the present day, WIZARD musical fashions and trends have been like water off a duck's back for them. ... more
